First up, sorry for no Wardrobe Wednesday post today – I just didn’t get around to taking any photos!
And to appease any of you whom are very disappointed – please check out this Wardrobe post from the stylish and classy Stella of 'The Golden Adventures' blog, doesn’t she look lovely? Is that a good use of a hyperlink, Sophie? (I’m working on it, can you tell?). Also if you’ve clicked over to Sophie's blog also check out her Wardrobe Wednesday maternity post it’s pretty awesome too. Ok enough sharing the blog love, moving right along …
I have a delicious recipe for a Super-Mum (or super anyone really) Smoothie to share with you. (I saw this on The Nature Baby Facebook page the other day and knew I had to try it out.)
For a smoothie to serve 2 people use: 1 banana, 1/2 a cup of blueberries, a tablespoon of chia seeds*, 1 cup of natural yoghurt, 1 cup of milk, 1 tsp of honey. I doubled this for 3 servings the size of the above (plus a little one for a 2 year old who promptly spilled hers down her front.)
*What are Chia seeds you wonder? And wonder you might – as I did too… Apparently they are a super food, high in Omega 3 fatty acids and vitamins, minerals and other healthy things. According to this website these little seeds provide the following benefits:
- Sustained release of Energy
- Omega 3 lowers Cholesterol and maintains Artery Function
- Omega 6 supports Joint Mobility and Muscle Repair
- Blood Glucose Leveller
- Slow Burn Glycemic Index – you feel fuller for longer!
- Promotes Digestive Health and aids Regularity
And Apparently “Chia is the Mayan word for strength. The seeds were used by these ancient Aztec and Mayan cultures as mega-energy food, by their running messengers, who would carry a small pouch with them for sustenance.”
(You learn something new everyday!)
And besides all that healthy stuff, it really was delicious! And I’m pretty sure I have more energy!
I don’t know about you, but when pregnant (or breast feeding) I sometimes feel inspired to eat especially healthy and nutritious things. (I don’t really have cravings per say, but do seem to feel like a good steak and fresh fruit a lot of the time.) This is a smoothie that I definitely will making and enjoying again this pregnancy.
Did you have cravings while pregnant? Or have any Chia, or otherwise healthy recipes to share with me? (Pretty please!)
