A little alliteration, aye? Ok, I’ll stop now.
I’ve recently been doing a bit of Spring / Summer inspired sewing for myself. (If you have read any of my recent posts you will know this as I have been ranting on about it for some time.)
* For the darker wrap around skirt I used a pattern from a library book called ‘Make your own Clothes’ by Marie Clayton. (It contains a CD with ‘Patternmaker’ software whereby you enter in the measurements it asks for on your computer and it produces a customised pattern for you to print out.)
This skirt was inspired by this pin.
* For the lighter blue and white stripe rope skirt I just free-styled. I cut 2 large rectangle pieces of fabric selvage to selvage sewed them together, hemmed it, did a casing for elastic and added the rope detail and lugs. It took about 45 mins (broken up by kid breaks of course!)
It was inspired by this pin.
If I did it again I would probably use a bit less fabric – it is very voluminous! That is fun and Summery though and the rope is the thing that makes it and cinches it in. Last night after I finished it, I wasn’t so sure if I liked it so I searched on Pinterest for “full skirts.” I found this and this (amongst others) which helped convince me that I, in fact loved full skirts. I have worn it all day today and I have to say, it’s mighty comfy!
* The bag is from this amazingly easy tutorial from MADE… it honestly took no longer than 30 minutes to whip up. In the tutorial she uses oil cloth, but I used a piece of canvas that I had got from the St Vinnies Op- Shop for 50 cents. I still have a little left (perhaps a matching camera bag?)
I plan to use this as a beach bag this Summer.
If you had asked me this morning I would have told you that I was swearing off sewing and nautical for a while. But then I visited St Vinnies and was ambushed with this:
Its funny how when you are aware of something you see it everywhere you go. (Like when you’re pregnant and it seems that there are a lot more pregnant people about) – or maybe that’s just me!
Noah has decided that the anchor bling/ medallion thingy – is his pirate treasure (or in the case of this photo perhaps some plunder from a Viking adventure?)
… And, because Pinterest had done such a great job convincing me that I do in fact love full skirts – I also snapped this up :
Its silky, colourful and would look great with a black singlet and a skinny belt. Just slightly too big so will need a minor alteration.
Bring on more Summery days I say!
